The United Way has a unique role as a community leader of philanthropy to benefit human services and as a major resource to local non-profit organizatios. We provide funding for 19 local nonprofit agencies in four counties and 43 programs within the agencies. All of these programs help in three main areas - Education, Income and Health.
Education focuses on making sure children and adults have the tools necessary to be successful in school or preparing for employment.
Income focuses on helping individuals and families budget and become self-sufficient.
Health focuses on safe and healthy living environments for residents in our area and assists with basic needs.
The United Way places the highest priority on its relationship with the community. As part of this relationship, the United Way responds to, serves and supports the community by working to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. What makes the United Way and our partner agencies different from the rest is that we focus on giving people in need a "hand up" not a "hand out." We are helping people to overcome barriers to lead productive lives. We bring people, resources and ideas together to help families with basic needs like food, rent and utiliities while finding innovative solutions for lasting change.
Our mission is to provide leadership by assessing needs, raising funds, and allocating resources to enrich lives and to build stronger communities in South Central Nebraska.
Our vision is to improve the quality of life in the four county area by forming partnerships with donors, agencies and volunteers to build stronger, healthier and more compassionate communities.
Our values are.....C.L.E.A.R. Collaboration, Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, Responsiveness
The United Way has been in operation since 1941. We currently have 19 agencies that we help support and fund 43 programs provided by these 19 local health and human service agencies in Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties. We want to ensure the money you give is used in the most efficient manner possible! Niniety-nine percent of all the money raised each year stays her in our region. We also offer four programs of our own which include Born Learning, Family Wise Drug Cards, Toys for Tots and Volunteer Connection. For many people, the United Way is and always has been the primary way they meet their desire to help their fellow human beings and the general public associates the United Way name with many worthy causes in the community.
The United Way is governed by a local board of directors that allocates funding and ensures that contributions are efficiently and effectively spent. In addition, the United Way organizes the Health and Human Service Council and participates in a variety of community collaborations and consortiums.
