Catholic Social Services

Who We Are

Catholic Social Services was founded by Bishop Louis B. Kucera as Catholic Charities of Lincoln on January 5, 1932. Our office in Hastings opened in 1985 to provide food and clothing for the needy and homeless.  We are a non-profit agency in South Central Nebraska, south of the Platte River, working with our communities for all of God's children.

What We Do

Catholic Social Services serves families and individuals in need of emergency assistance with rent, utilities, food, and clothing.  Our Supportive Housing Program provides housing and support services to women and children left homeless because of domestic violence.  The St. Joseph Gift and Thrift Store is stocked with  clean affordable clothing, housewares, appliances and furniture at low affordable prices  to assist families in managing their monthly budgets.  The volunteer services program places volunteers within the agency according to the needs, talents and skills of qualified participants.  Families can be served directly from our onsite food pantry or one of the Mobile Food pantries sponsored by CSS.  Catholic Social Services also partners with the Open Table to provide food to anyone, no questions asked, no judgments made.    Our counseling department provides affordable counseling to families and individuals in need of professional services.
